HEFT!!!!! Cool runnin' into Tom at Barnes & Noble last week. We indeed need to give Rick Schneider more credit....didn't he and someone else get busted ripping off floodlights for our prehistoric light shows?!!? I feel sooooo guilty, I indeed have many Oasis and Koncept tapes not yet on this site. As I told Tom, I'm working on some of my old solo cassette material (digitizing it, search for "Tony Pucci" at LastFM.com), but after that I'll turn my attention towards this fer y'all! I found my '83 Mount Olive tape the other day, so after blaming Scott for losing it for the last 25 years (haha!), I'll have to now admit publicly that I'm supremely unorganized! YOGI!!!

Scott & Tom how you guys doing? Working late and happened to come across the site. Hope things are going well for you both. Picked up a Clapton Custom Strat and Vintage 57 Strat most recently, wish I played better back then, definately better these days. Unlike when I was trying to draw the album cover for Oasis. . Anyway fun to see the pictures. Let me know what your doing these days. Take care! Jeff

Wife bought me a cool 5-piece Gretsch kit so I can be known to beat them from time-to-time too. Take care! Long live the '80's!

Hello all. I came across this site while looking up some info on old Rochester bands. I honestly don't think I've heard any of these bands live, and don't believe I've met Tom or Scott. But I seem to know or have met quite a lot of your former bandmates from over the years. This is a great site guys, well done.
Abe

Ok, I am only a bit disappointed to be left out of so much of the late eighties part of this thing. I was a drummer in a band with Scott and Tony for about two practices when Koncept was on a hiatus. Then Stryker got to gether again and wanted you guys to play and Tom was back in the seat for the rest of the ride. I want some recognition for 'Finding hundreds of flood lost in backyards and schools for the lighting system." I look forward to finding some photos from the chicken hatchery days on hear. Scott, I still can't sleep well after hearing the bass line from Black Sabbath. I'll be back to see what's going on. As for me I working with glass and teaching at the University of South Alabama in Mobile on the gulf coast. Any of you coming down to New Orleans should hit me up. I'm about two hours from there.

I hope that station can survive through Aug. I haven't had the radio on since KNAC 105.5 Pure Rock died. It would be nice not to have to charge my mp3 player every day while we're there.
Bri
5/14/2008 5:04:30 PM

By the way, Tom, the twin cities' radio situation isn't THAT much better than Rochester's...it's mostly dominated by ultra-pop and pussy rock (the line between them is often blurred) with a LITTLE bit of classic rock (Skynnard every hour) and hard rock (a rotation of about 4-5 bands). Thank god for iPods!! :) Nonetheless...I see your point...so what's the new Rochester station like?

I once attended a wedding where some midget road crew members dressed as pirates showed up. Those motherfuckers are FIERCE!!!! I tried to pet one of them on the head because he was so cute and he nearly bit my balls off!!! Anyway, I'm playing a solo show @ the Break Room this Wed., May 14th...starting @ 9:30 pm...two 60 minute sets...no cover. I had to cancel the last show w/ Brandon Messmer due to illness/loss of voice...oh well, what is a muthafucka to do? Hope to see ya.

Hey, guys! Come down to the Star this Saturday, May 10 to show support for Rochester's new ROCK station,,,ZROCK 107.7. STIR will be hosting the party. The Bud Girls will be there from 8-10 introducing the new Bud Light Lime, there's 50 cent 12 oz. tap beers from 9-10, and cool prizes and giveaways throughout the evening. Unfortunately, I never did line up the midget road crew dressed as pirates. (I was really looking forward to seeing the little showers of sparks as their sword tips dragged across the floor). Guess I'll have to settle for some crazy drunk fuckers instead. I wonder where a guy could find a few of those? Hmmmmm....

The new station does show some promise. They are operating on a shoestring budget at this point, with no commercials for about 2 weeks, and no DJs for the first 2 or 3 months. I'm in the process of organizing a sort of coming out party for the station at our May 10 gig at the Star. Sort of a Rochester's hardest rockin' station at Rochester's hardest rockin' bar with one of Rochester's rockin' bands type deal, with give aways and such. I'm hoping to line up the Jagermeister or Captain Morgan girls to appear (does anybody know where I can get a midget road crew dressed as pirates?). I'll let you know if it all pans out. Shameless plug time: I will be at the Star this fri playing with STIR. Stop in if you're out and about.

All I have to say is...it's about f-in time! It's nice to have a choice between "classic rock" and "classic rock" and "light rock" (I miss the cities!).

Hey guys, Just wanted to let you know that I will be reuniting with former Loft band mate Brandon Badass Messmer for a one-time acoustic performance @ the Break Room in Rochester on Wed., Feb. 27th starting at 9:30 pm...there's no cover. We'll be playing some of my tunes, some of his, a few old Loft songs, and maybe a few funky-ass covers. Our pay is based on a percentage of bar sales...so please come and drink until you throw up!!! Speaking of throwing up...sorry I missed your birthday party, Scott. I played until 11:30 and I just assumed that you had already vomitted your four wine coolers and passed out by then...much like a high school girl!! Maybe next year, Tiger! Later, Joe

Crap, you're turning my own singer against me. You won't push it back two months just for me? Don't you know guitar player trumps rhythm section even if you add a singer? :) There's no way I can come in June. Not even for you guys. Amberlyn is still in school at that time as well and she refuses to fly. Somebody better video tape the whole thing. Scott, Isn't that supposed to be my line? Peavey's aren't as bad as they were back in the day. They finally discovered tubes! I'll stick with Carvin. Bogner Ubershall if you twist my arm. Happy B-day old fart.

Thats a negative on the August thing Bri - you will come back in June and you will like it! What.... do you play Peavy or something??
Scott
2/1/2008 7:07:35 PM

Curt, I had forgotten about you not wanting to play Will's. That was the closest thing to a gig we had even though it was closer to what Jim's place was supposed to be. It's a shame Storm never could get all the pieces together at the same time. We were at our best when it ended. Over a grand for The Stuff CD. I wonder what I could get for a pickup used in Rick Stack's guitar:) I wish we had a Kid Whiplash CD. Scott, I'd love to see a KW reunion, especially since I never got to watch the show back in the day. Michelle is still teaching in June. We'll probably be back in mid August.

Hey Brian! Good to hear from you! Yes, you should be listed in the Kid Whiplash area, that would be Tom's area but I am sure he will take care of it when he reads your message. Speaking of Kid Whiplash, I have been talking with Rick and Tom, we are starting to plan a 20 year reunion on or around June 9th of this year, that is 20 years from the first KW show. You should make plans to come back for a visit then!

Hey all, Just stumbled onto this site. Way cool trip down memory lane. I'll need to find time to see it all. Don't I get a crew credit for being Rick's tech for the first three KW shows? It all started when my space brother sent me back home to grab my slide. When I was about to grab just the slide, I got a feeling he'd need the guitar too. Dashed back to the show and after some drama at the door I went to give Curt my slide. I ended up having to fix Rick's guitar that he fell on while heading to the stage. I think it was Dealer he had to play with my Bich while I tuned his backup guitar. Since Storm was over (Jim was sick of metal, and we were all sick of making Curt sandwiches to keep him from quiting) and I was leaving town, I stayed on as Rick's tech for the Austin and 4H shows. I'm just getting back to playing. I'm at the 3 month mark of a possible 6 month wait for my Jackson USA Kelly. I still have the Bich.

Hello to all , wanted to throw something a tad off the wall out there in Rhythm Rock land, for the past few weeks i've been digging through my cd collection wich at this point is getting ridiculous and started noticing all the really cool hard rock and metal cds from the 80's that i've collected over the past few years . I also sarted to notice that a ton of this stuff is getting damn hard to obtain.... so i started thinking , it would be really cool to share this stuff with fellow 80's rockers out there and give you guys in Rhythm Rock land a chance to enjoy these great bands as well.I mean it's not fair for me to boggart all of the killer out of print stuff is it??? well i did pay for it...lol, in the past i've recived requests for copys of some of my stuff and it got me thinking ( wich rarely happens) WHY NOT SHARE!!!!. so if you're intrested in getting copys of anything from the 80's mainstream or a tad deep please send me a e- mail at curtisblock@hmtel.com , i'm thinking a cdr copy or a mp3 through e-mail or msn messenger if you want a cdr copy i will remaster the levels for you ( i.e. bring the levels up to 0db) because some of this 80s stuff sounds good its just quiet. and then mail you the cdr . if you want full cds no problem , a mix cd of your favorite tunes ..no problem maybe just a few songs thats fine aswell . just let me know . Now as far as what i have....i'll put some of the cds i've just gotten in latleyhere on the guest book other wise PlEASE FEEL FREE TO E - MAIL ME. with what you're looking for. i'll keep you guys updated as i get new things in , Thanks To Scott And Tom for keeping this site up and running , i guess this my contribution. Ah yes, Mean Time! Unfortunately taking care of the digital video would probably be my job (and Roys) and you may not be afraid of me now but you will be! By the way, is that tape the one that was recorded on the North Star video system, kinda goes through 2 differant angles and switches from color to black and white?
Scott

Are you fuckers getting so damn old that you don't even remember all of the bands you've been in? I found an old VHS tape that Birdy recorded of Scott and Mighty Thomas with Brandon handling the vocals (that's right folks, 3 piece) from Adam's Benefit in a hall closet today. I know damn well I've never seen it before. All I can say is Scott, if you dare wear short shorts Nair with short shorts. Mean Time, people....Mean Time. So who does a guy gotta blow to get this bad boy converted to digital and uploaded? I hope to God it's not Lenny. Then again...... I'm not afraid of him.

Yes and no Joe. I'm working in Rochester during the week for the Government but still living in Coon Rapids for now. Trying to sell the house but the market blows right now so haven't had much luck yet.

Just added some video from our Koncept reunion last December. Can't believe we remembered as much as we did - it had been 22 years since we last jammed.

Thanks Jay! And I agree on the calander idea, that would rock, will have to see what webmaster Thomas has to say.
Scott
5/3/2007 8:48:09 AM

I think it would be cool if this site had a calender to list upcoming gigs, BBQs, parties and any other forms of shameless self promotion. Speaking of shameless self promotion...........I'll be playing at the Star again this fri May 4.

Hey fellas, It's been awhile since I checked out this site. Am I reading into this right, Tom....are you living in Rochester now? And of course congrats Scott...I just sent you an e-mail. Also just found out that Matt moved to Arizona and had another wee tot! Shit....I'm outta the loop! What else is new? Scott...do you still listen to gangster rap?:)
Joe Carey
4/26/2007 1:15:20 PM

Hey guys, if anyone is interested and in town friday my new band Stir will be playing at the Star. I won't be singing much but I will be pretending to play bass and making stupid faces. We'll be playing 93x type shit and, as I said before, we're new, so bring a paper to read, something to throw at us and a healthy hankerin' for alcohol, McDonald's french fries and automatic weapons. My son Cody is playing guitar with.....come check him out if nothing else.

4/7/2007 1:19:37 AM

Yes and no. I had 3 of Rock Centrals JBL wedges on a dolly and the top one fell off about half way down the ramp. The Rock Central dude that stacked the monitors bitched. Then he got bitched at by the owner of the Pony Express for dragging road cases across the newly refinished wood floor. I partied with Molly Hatchet's tour manager Jordan on the bus during the Brief's' and Austin Healey's sets...real cool dude.
Roy
4/6/2007 5:51:39 AM

Speaking of memories of the Pony Express.... Roy, did'nt you drop one of Molly Hatchets monitors off of the truck ramp and get bitched at by their road manager?
Scott
3/28/2007 11:12:19 AM

In other news...the Pony Express/Relay Station burned down the other night. Kinda sad. That place had long run of musical history before any of us were even born.I have lots of memories of going to see bands there when I was young, to working for other bands or playing there myself. Alot of these memories were with alot of you guys...... I remember it was always fun and always one helluva party.

Indeed. To re-work a quote a wize man (Marty ) once said to me when my last son was born, I'm lucky... I only have to worry about 2 dicks...you have to worry about the rest of 'em. Good luck with that. Welcome home Mighty Thomas. With you and Lenny in the same neck of the woods I have a sneaking suspicion we may see an addition to the Bands section of this site sometime in the future. We must drink! Roy

Awesome site Tom! All the pictures bring back tons of great memories of all the guys & some great times jammin' at my parents house. I've got a ton of pics of Oasis & Koncept that I'll have to get to you. I ran in to Schneids last weekend & he told me about the website. Do me a favor? No Steve - You rock! Did you ever find the beer store?? I also had a deja-vu, is that how you spell it? Just this morning I was on my way to work and Pretty Maids "Future World" came on the Sirius Hair Nation channel - how cool is that??? That was the song that we used to stand on our hands next to the wall and head bang upside down to.....
Scott
1/18/2007 6:28:57 PM

It's 12:20am and I've just dropped my girlfriend off at work - she works the trains - and I'm driving around Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada looking for a beer store. Beer stores are open until 1:00am. Lost in the city, searching for the beacon of saving light "Beer Store", S.O.D. comes on the radio (great radio stations in Winnipeg). Lost, driving, beer hunting I flash back to Curt Block and various other sea-lives head banging at some any-day-of-the-week party to Storm Troopers of Death. I laugh my ass off, smiling and remembering the cranking stereo, I'm sure Lenny was yelling "Hear that low end, that's what a kick drum should sound like." - as he's pounding his chest. I tried banging my head, but pulled a back muscle - the ravages of age.

Don't forget to email those photos to Scott and Horse. I meant to mail them to Scott and remembered to bring them for the party instead. I know he'd at least wanna see them and I know that Horse wanted some of them too. Let me know if and where you posted the pix if you do. Until next time...............

I just watched all five instalments of Kid Whiplash, and could not tell who was talking when. You all sounded the same. What was that accent that you were doing?? You guys still RAWK!! Biff
Biff Malibu
10/30/2006 1:23:57 PM

The video clips that I just put on are the load out - load in - set up - and getting ready the day of our first Kid Whiplash show on June 9th 1988. Had to break it into 5 parts, even that way it takes a little bit to buffer but there are some good clips in there.
Scott
10/27/2006 9:26:15 PM

Now that is the Scott I was waiting to hear from!!!!! I thought Biff was a Rod Stewart look-alike who always showed up everywhere alone and was always way too tan. I don't know. I may have not done my share of the drinking that night but I know you did MORE than your share of the talking. Ha!!! See ya in the alley.........
Joe Carey
10/20/2006 1:37:13 PM

Biff is actually Jay Wells, or at least that is where we heard it from - the deck we where on was Kevins - no, you probably did not do your share of the drinkin - and we can talk about Nascar sometime soon..... maybe this Sat. night? In the alley behind the bar???
Scott
10/19/2006 9:47:28 PM

10/18/2006 4:22:47 PM

Tom and Scott, I just thought of that night we went to the afterbar following a Guys Downstairs gig @ Ed's Attic. Scott, it was the first night I met you. Anyway we drank all night on some dude's deck and then played frisbee golf. But I recall a lot of the conversation that night was about a character named Biff Malibu. What was his story...was he in a band, or just naturally a tool? I don't suppose he has made his way into any photos? By the way I'm doing an acoustic gig @ the Canadian Honker this Sat., Oct. 18th.....oh...and Scott....Nascar is for pussies:)
Joe Carey
10/18/2006 4:19:40 PM

Roy, If your still looking to go on Sat get ahold of me. I will be back from Brainerd early enough to get down to Roch and put a few away with you. To bad Scott's to busy with his Nascar. We could also head down to the NorthStar for some flashbacks.
Dennis
10/8/2006 1:18:29 PM

Will probably not be able to make it that night, have a Nascar night race event going on, will have to see what time that gets over with, could possibly make it out later?

I downloaded these to my iPod. Boggin sounds awesome cranked on the iPod. I highly recommend it. These songs are better than I remember. I haven't listened to them in a long time. No Steve had nice production on these. And yes, Brandon's leads/riffs/everything sounds mint. We weren't half bad... They hold up nicely. Roy, I would love to join you for cocktails but I play that night also. I'll just have to buy one of Brandon's CDs instead. Brandon, how can I get one?
Tom Salmon
10/1/2006 8:56:55 AM

The site is very enjoyable I hope it grows. I have many of the fliers for the shows we did as well as press clippings . The six photos for the hhurricaine alice show I took. I actually only recently developed them as I have taken so many show photos thru the years. This group was certainly one of the finest I've worked with. Right up there with LEX LUTHER and THE BLONDES. This group was a serious show to see and hear. may we do it again sometime. Bird

I hope there aren't any pics of that night, Dennis. Not only did Lenny's amp blow, my fly blew sometime during the course of the night as well. God only knows how long my zipper was gaping open. I 'spose the only reason Scott didn't tell me about was maybe he was hoping it would attract some chicks!

If anyone can locate WatercolorSky and the other back-stage passes Rob Nassif and Steve Digre created, I think I would pull a major muscle if I saw those again. Man we worked late hours on those. ALSO, lest we forget RATTS COME A RUNNIN'. I think everyone on this page was involved with that project. Rob even had concepts of free gum and crackers with a cassette tape purchase. Definetly not getting any work done today.

Okay, this is a trip down memory lane. Smiles and great memories. I remember Kobble-ween - the Kid Whiplash gig at Mayo Civic where Lenny, the budding sound engineer bassist, assisted with various Kobble duties (Kobbling the monitor system) and Lenny missed the entire briefing on when and where the pyro-tech was going off. The look on Lenny's face when he missed the entire briefing. Read James Hetfield in Toronto. Thanks for the sound assistance Lenny.

Tonis, OUTSTANDING contribution! Great photos of the Randy Williams party on Marion Road! Didn't think there were any of those around. I totally forgot about a couple things you put up until I saw them just now. The Koncept in the Kornfield blew my mind for a minute. I forgot we did that. What a cool shot! And the church talent show deal, I still only vaguely remember that even with the pictures. What songs did we play at that? The "End of Summer" section I have out there was for the show we did at Scott's house on his front porch. It was at the end of August in '83 the last week of summer before school started. Remember? It was a spur of the moment thing where we just decided to do it. That's different than the two at Jim's (although I forgot about the first one at Jim's until you mentioned it). That's right, we did a toga party thing at the first one, then Farm Rock was later on, in September, as I recall. Anyway, great photos. It is so fun to see these ones you've never seen before.
Tom Salmon
8/13/2006 10:01:22 AM

OK Yogis, Hefts and Lennys...I've uploaded the great majority of photos that I have from back in the day. There might be one or two more floating around that I have yet to find. Now I need to work on digitizing some of the old cassettes! Tom--Koncept did two shows at Jim's in 83, an "end of school" gig in his front yard, and "Farm Rock" in his back yard. I think you've got a "end of school" photo in the wrong section. Aren't there any more Farm Rock photos?!!?! That was a big party, I hope some more show up. I just remember it being really cold, I could hardly move my fingers, and the bonfire was clear across the backyard.... Cheers! Tony Pucci
Tony Pucci
8/13/2006 2:18:26 AM

Added a "Sleepover at Scott's" photo section to the Koncept page. I've got more of these at home, including some of Lenny and Rick Schnieder too, I believe. Actually, I have a bunch of Koncept photos (not so sure about Oasis, but I'll see)...and I have a few photos from (didn't know it was the only one until I just read it now) Wrathchild's only gig out at that party on Marion Road by the Hwy. 52 overpass (whose house was that?!?!). Got a pic or two of Chris Schneider at that gig...I think that was about the biggest party that summer!
Tony Pucci
8/12/2006 5:28:25 AM

Added "Psycho Groove" band section. We are looking for your help in locating a photo to use for this band homepage (circa 1992). If anyone has a photo you can share, please upload it to the photo gallery or email it to us at files@rhythmrock.com. Thanks!

Hello Kevin Anderson, are you out there? I wanted to let you know I uploaded the lone two photos that I have of you "back in the day" (i.e. 1984). You'll find them under Koncept in the "Practice" and "Mayo High School Friday Entertainment" sections. Enjoy. Do you have any photos from this era or the later Hot Pink era? Let me know.

Schneids! Very cool to hear from you! Also Weez and L.D.S. hopefully you will find some old things to add to the archives! 8/1/2006 6:19:03 PM

Tom - Small world, indeed... Brandon and I had known each other for a # of years prior to becoming band mates. We always had an interest in jamming together, although it seemed like the right opportunity never surfaced. Finally a couple years ago my last project disbanded and Brandon was putting Spindrift together. We hooked up and have never looked back since. I'm guessing my Mom has some photo's in her archives. I will see if I can come up with something to post. I know she has some from pre Oasis days - when we used to put on air band shows in Ken Baker's driveway.
Chris Schneider
8/1/2006 2:15:23 PM

Hey Schneids! Long time no see! It's a small world (I played with Brandon back in 91-92). I'll definately have to make a trip down to see your band. He mentioned he had a "Chris Schneider" in his band and I figured it must be you. I haven't ran into many from those days either. I spoke with Tony last year (it had been over 10 years since I last spoke with him). He and Ken work together. I know they've been on the site as Tony emailed me last night. I have a picture of you and I together in Cub scouts I'll throw up in the Oasis section. Do you have any old Oasis photos you can contribute to the site?
Tom Salmon
8/1/2006 10:31:22 AM

Hi Weez, yes, please put up whatever you have. We don't have much Kid Whiplash stuff. Rick gave us the one we're using on that band page. Somehow, we didn't take many pictures of those days. Looking forward to seeing what you have! Scott, do you have the Mayo Civic show on video?

Tom/Scott - Brandon Messmer recently turned me on to your site... Holy balls, I am having flashbacks!!! Not sure if I'll be able to focus on work today. Memories of the Oasis garage band days and all the crazy times we used to have are ringing through my head. I occasionally run into Ernie Nelson here in Roch, and I saw Amy Blee at our class reunion last summer. Otherwise I really haven't run into a soul from this era. Glad to hear you haven't lost touch with your musical roots. My resume isn't as long as yours, but I have played actively over the years. Shoot me an email, I'd love to catch up with you guys. Curtis Lowe! You are not wrong, you should and will be listed. This site is still a work in progress with updates to come. Sorry I didn't get this done before launch, there was just so much to do. You were a part of so many of the bands that I need some help from you. I sent you an email about this. Read it over and check back in.

It was a Rob Nassif thing, just the wrong time frame. Steve Digre was involved also. Could be that the CARLOS BOYS name was from Kid Whiplash days but the laminates weren't made until just before the Molly Hatchet show if I remember right. I'm wearing one in one of the Mirage photos. There were CARLOS BOYS crew shirts as well by the time we did Pfaff's R.E.O show at the fairgrounds. I miss my Carlos shirt. (sniff)

No sh!t! We both thought that was a Rob Nasif thing from Kid Whiplash. Thanks for the correction.

Tom, the CARLOS BOYS All Access Passes listed under Kid Whlplash are from the Gangster Holiday era. Carlos Boys was the Road Crew for the Bob Pfaff promoted shows and should almost be treated as a separate group like a band. Still got my pass hanging in the closet :)

Awesome Roy! Those are some great shots. I don't remember ever seeing those before. Looking forward to seeing the rest. Very cool indeed.

Mighty Thomas, Yes, that photo was with Hericane Alice. That was taken at The Pony Express. More to come.

Roy, was that Hurricane Alice we were warming up for in that photo? Where was that at? North Star, Ryan's, Mirage?
